Telrad or red dot?
« on: September 24, 2012, 02:16:49 PM »
I kind of broke my red dot finder on Friday night, no idea how but now the on/off control is tricky to say the least. I was going to get a replacement from Harrison Telescopes for 23 but I've since spotted a Telrad for 36 here: http://www.365astronomy.com/telrad-finder-finderscope-p-2961.html

Would I be better off with the Telrad or does it really not make a lot of difference if you're not using a finderscope as well?

telrad all the way [the bullseye gives you a much better target than the dot and for 36 quid is good value

I would phone and check that they have them before ordering as theyre pretty rare and some companies are quite happy to take your money while they wait for stock (scopes n skies certainly do  >:()
Funk it, close enough ;D

If they're in stock, then I'd definitely recommend the Telrad as since I got mine it has made finding my way about the sky a breeze.

An alternative to the telrad is the Rigel Quick Finder, a lot smaller than a telrad and just as effective.
