Good dark sites North of Glasgow?
« on: April 27, 2012, 12:14:51 PM »
Hi all

I'm a new member to the forum - I posted a welcome message under the "welcome" section

I live in the North of Glasgow (Bearsden) and am looking for any good observing dark sites North of Glasgow. The A809 through Drymen up to Loch Lomond is just round the corner from me - I guess this is my best bet?

Does anyone know any good places or have any advice?

Thanks in advance

Rgds
Stefan

Well I'm not sure but Tom uses a place around Drymen, he might
be the best to answer this.

Hi Stefan.
Dryman or anywhere around would be ok I've considered Balmaha as there is a very big unlit car park there, I use the Carman hill which sits between Cardross and Renton there is a road (Cardross rd) that runs across the hill.
the sky is pretty good just a bit of glow from gasgow but apart from that its ok can see milky way.
Hope this helps

I'm coming down with dark sites in the area around Oban....but, no other astronomers!
If I've a day or so's notice I'll make the trip down with my scope.
