Request for astro images from Prof. John Brown
« on: April 17, 2018, 02:46:48 PM »
Hello all,

Professor John Brown (Astronomer Royal for Scotland) has asked if I would put out a request for some astro images taken in Scotland to be included in a new Scottish astronomy and poetry book.

http://www.johncbrown.org/

I know there are plenty on here that take amazing images!

Here's the request in full.

Dear Steve
The text of book I am writing with Rab Wilson (Lallans poet) combining intro astronomy topics, images and new poems, is coming along well and we are now starting to look for sources of images to use in it. While some will need to be pro shots, we are keen to include some high quality amateur material, especially by Scots. The list below is of some of the items we are seeking and I would like to take you up on your offer to send this out to astrophotography individuals and groups who may be able and willing to offer images for us to consider. We cannot offer a fee but will of course fully credit the source and give their URL so that readers can access their other material. IF the book gets published and IF we are offered authors' discount price copies we can likely offer a copy of the book at that price to those who have contributed images.
Am bccing this to a few personal contacts I know to be into astrophotography or who may know folk I don't but no harm if they get the info twice
I look forward to hearing from prospective contributors.  Obviously material has to be good enough in the sense of high enough (dpi) for the eventual size of the image in the book, colour rendition to our liking and showing the feature we refer to on a suitable scale - close up or wide field etc

Many thanks for this
John

Here's a list of what he's looking for:

A good circumpolar star trail shot, maybe with a meteor
Starbirth Nebula - Orion M42, Eagle/Pillars of Creation, Horsehead - possibly as an array in one image
PNs Ė Eskimo, Catís Eye, Ring, Blue Snowball, Helix, Butterfly  - see attachment
Thorís Helmet Nebula (to go with a painting of mine),  Eta Carina
SNRs - Crab, Tycho, Cyg Loop, ? Cass A possibly as an array in one image

Galaxies M31, M51, The Mice and maybe a cluster
Perseus Double Cluster, Pleiades, Centaurs or other Globular
Outstanding images of aurorae, solar , meteor showers, fireballs
Comets - esp Hale Bopp and MacNaught
Maybe some planet shots - possibly a collage of a few images

It would be amazing to see some CSOG images in the book!

If you are interested in sending John some of your images please let me know in the thread or via PM and I'll pass on your contact details.

Cheers
Steve

Why don't you email John and ask him.  If you submitted an image Craig there's a good
chance its in it as there are loads in the book.
