Getting back into if
« on: August 25, 2017, 04:54:09 PM »
Due to life vetting in the way I have been very inactive in the astro world for the last couple of years. So decided to sell off all my imaging gear and down scale.
I've got a log of if away now so am in the position to buy a  descent grab n go visual rig and decided on a skywatcher star discovery 150p, alt az goto.
So hope to see some of you soon up at harperigg.....

Hi Gaz, great to see that you're back and observing as well. I'm sure you will be drawn back to the "dark side" eventually again - the force is always with you! I'm hope that you will bring some clear skies with you as it has been abysmal lately!

See you a Harperigg or Whiteadder soon mate and you can have a look through the 18" Skywatcher dob that I now have - it's awesome!

Yeah I hope to be back soon mate..... The dark side isn't completely gone, getting the star discovery 150p and bought a spc900 webcam so a bit of lunar and planetary imaging. I also still have my 1000d so could image some of the brighter dso's with that, even though its an altaz mount there is someone on YouTube getting fairly decent results from it... But predominately visual will be my thing for a while.
Looking forward to a shot of the 450 James, sounds a beast....

Yeah got most of my big imaging kit away, cash stashed in the house. Gotta get some of it into the bank and get the new scope ordered.... Looks a cracking bit of kit, my only concern is the non collimateable primary, although there are ways round that. Have you had to collimate yours?

No Gaz, got someone else for the job.
Not given up, just downsized... got 200mm SW dob, its only seen minimal action in my garden since I got it in, it needs to be up in the hills soon though.

Tee hee! had to copy and paste this to read it!

Aye I did have to tweak it a little bit-You do have a tiny bit of adgustment in the primary mirror with the fixing screws and to be honest that was enough and It seems to have stayed pretty true since then.

Yeah, not sure what happened to the txt size in that post, haha.
Yeah thought as much, seen a few YouTube videos on this scope now and by all accounts its a great scope, and an even better mount, time will tell.
I've got a laser collimator ear marked on eBay..... Still to.win the bid though..... Can't wait to get my hands on the scope, ordered from FLO last night, with no word on delivery today.... Hopefully it'll be here in the next day or so coz of was marked in stock on their website.

Not had first light yet but I did get it built up in the house..... Goes together very quickly and I gotta say the build quality is superb, way better than the old altaz mount.
The hand set is much faster, that was one complaint I had with all telescope hand sets, they were very clunky and slow, this responds instantly.
The mount and tripod are rock solid, the engineering improvements that have gone In to it are easy to see.
The scope is nice, built to a budget to keep the price down but it has the famous f5 optics in a cheaper tube so should be good.....
Gonna try to get first light on Sunday night......
