Bode (M81) and Cigar (M82) Galaxies
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:26:57 PM »

So I hadn't been out with my gear since the Mercury transit in May so when I got some new toys for Christmas and I managed to get 2-3 hours of clears skies on the 2nd January I took some pictures.

I have to admit it took me ages to set up, a mix of not having done it in a while and the fact that I had to get to grips with my new gear, in particular the finder/guider as PHD seems to be one of the most confusing astro programmes I have used to date.

Anyway, I got the focus wrong as well so in the end I only actually managed 3 x 5 minute shots.

I was probably happy that I managed to take 5 minute shows with only the odd minor issue, which was quite nice to see considering I had never attempted such a thing before.

Hopefully in the future I will get the chance to spend some more time on these two targets are they are lovely.. I was so enthralled when the first 5 min sub showed up on my PC and I could clearly see the red region in the cigar galaxy.

Well done David. I haven't seen these through the scope at all this season.
