Star Camp
« on: April 28, 2016, 11:49:56 AM »
Me and Martyn (perthskies and stuffedhaggis) are testing the water at this stage - who would be interested in a Star Camp, not conflicting with Keilder or Galloway, in Perthshire area. We are in talks with various councils etc to check the feasibility - This, if we get enough interest and approval, could become an annual event - The proposed venue has toilets, showers, a hall for talks/slide shows, kitchen etc. and parking - and probably space for 40 tents (TBC) While the venue has trees surrounding it, and a few street lights, it still offers some good skies, some nights very good. Electric may be available via extensions from the hall. (TBC).

Costs as yet have not been confirmed and we are thinking a Friday arrive, Monday finish.

This site is no where near perfect, but for a nearby get-together and for newbies who have never managed a Star Camp, could hit the spot.

7th October is the possible date. Crescent moon till around 22.00ish

Just had approval in principal from council, again some red tape and forms to fill in. This is still just an idea to guage interest

Brilliant idea lads. I'm defo up for that and I am sure Steve will be too. If the halls big enough it maybe something that the planetarium could be useful for (just in case the clouds don't part!?).

Hi David,

What a fantastic idea, I'd definitely be interested as well but I'm afraid the date you are looking at we'll be on the Isle of Coll running our stargazing and planetarium weekend breaks on the island.

Nothing on the weekend before though, would those dates be an option, it's also new moon?  :)

Maybe you could give me a call over the weekend mate when you're free and we could discuss the possibilities.

Cheers
Steve

Ok, sounds good, keep us up to date. Some idea of location would be useful as I don't have transport.

Star Camp is going ahead, should be able to give costs etc. this week.

Could anyone who is interested please add name to this post before Thursday if possible, spaces are limited and it will probably batteries only with the odd extension cable - plugs in the pavilion for charging etc.

Great news David!  :)

Count me and James in.

We'll have the planetarium along with free sessions in the dome for all attendees. Whatever the weather folks you'll be able to spend time under clear (digital) skies, we'll also be playing a selection of immersive 'full-dome' movies!!  :)
