Alignmaster.....again.....had an Alan Partridge moment.
« on: January 25, 2016, 01:19:53 PM »
Ahhhaaaaaaa.........

So I had a bit of an ah-ha moment on Alignmasters use. The steps I was trying.

1. Level Mount.
2. EQMod PA routine for roughness.
3. 1 star alignment with EQMod in Dialog Mode.
4. Alignmaster started with all GPS/Times Correct.
5. Go through the Alignmaster routine.
6. Repeat Alignmaster routine......(that's worse!!)

So the step I am missing (I think) is after Step 5. You should clear out the sync data in EQMod and do another 1-star alignment. Why? Well if you think about it, you moved the Az-Alt bolts during the 1st AM Routine. Your alignment is now well off if you continue to use that and hence AM's calculations will be wrong.

Think it is clear for a few hours tonight so will give it a go.

Update to follow if it has worked. It does make sense though.

Cheers

Neil

Yes that looks to have done the business. The iterations got better this time rather than worse.

Yes, you cant have any sort of alignment data in the mount.  I just use EQMod Polar align, works a treat then do a drift if you really need to

I have never managed to get drift align working yet. Being portable and having to dismantle every time makes it time consuming for me.  I keep trying to get my setup time down to under 40mins  to actually catching photons. That is harder than you think!! 😁

Which is why I have an observatory - drift align once and that's you ready to go in a couple of minutes!

Can you drift align on a portable solution?

Yes. Just it is tedious and takes time. I can do 20min subs anyway with eSpirt80 and stars are tight and round so I am good. Just searching for perfection as always.
