Midlothian Science Festival 14th October 2014
« on: September 03, 2014, 07:26:16 PM »
Here is an email I received today. Please let me know if you'd like to get involved.

Thanks

Paul

My name is Iona Beange. I am Festival Manager for Midlothian Science Festival.

We have an event planned called Umbrella Solar System, where crafty people will decorate an umbrella with glow in the dark paint to represent the night sky.
October 14 @ 18:00 - 19:15

see http://midlothiansciencefestival.com/event/umbrella-solar-system/

I was wondering if you might have any members who would be willing to come along and help out at this event. It would be great if participants could have a go at looking at the night sky and then recreate that on their umbrella.

Although of course we can download night sky guides and templates for decorating the umbrellas, it would be really good to have someone there who could answer some basic questions and talk passionately to participants about what they see.

Let me know if you think you might be able to assist.

Thanks

Steve could get the planetarium out and do a demo then participants could paint what they saw?

I was at a meeting today about an event that we will hopefully be taking the planetarium to as part of the Midlothian Sci Fest but it's not this one.

As it's only on for just over an hour it's not really worth taking the planetarium but I'd be happy to go along and talk about constellations etc. Pity it probably won't be dark enough to take telescopes or even see the constellations if it was clear. Still I've got Sky Safari on my phone and tablet so could show folks the constellations on that I suppose.  :)
