Another Belt Mod
« on: December 07, 2013, 10:17:44 PM »
So impressed was I by the belt mod I did on my HEQ5 I decided to also get my NEQ6 upgraded as soon as Dave at Rowan Astronomy came out with the kit. However having regreased the dec bearings I decided I wasn't too keen on doing the mod myself this time and sent it to Graham at Astrotec instead. Well it arrived back and eager to test it out I've just connected it up and ran it through some slew operations to  se how it performs. I found it very smooth and quiet. Though the iPhone microphone seems very sensitive to the noise in practice it's actually very quiet and not at all noisy

Here's the YouTube link a bit boring but it gives you an idea of the difference ;)

Not to bothered in doing the job, it's quite expensive and my mount is still under warranty, gotta wait on that expiring.

I have an older eq6 pro that I'd like to do this mod on so keep us posted on how it comes along. If it does the job on yours then I'll probably do the same to mine.

Will do Jeff. I've not had the chance since I got it back. Tonight might have been my best opportunity but we got an invite we couldn't refuse :)
